Hey mommas,

Grab a warm beverage and let's sit and chat.  I'm Meghan Ratliff and I am so glad that you are here.  I’m a wife, a mom, a daughter, a sister and a friend.  My journey into motherhood was one that changed so many things about who I am.  After the birth of my first daughter, I was in a sort of shell-shocked state.  This baby that my husband and I had prayed for, planned for, spent 9 plus months dreaming about was rocking my world.  I struggled, I cried and in the midst of all of it I looked around for someone to say, “me too, momma. Me too” I didn’t know what I was doing-oh everyone had an opinion for me but mostly they were just that — opinions. Swaddle, don't swaddle, use a pacifier never use a pacifier…and so on and so on.  I wished there was someone who was trained, who had the knowledge and the understanding to help ease me into this new world of motherhood.  After the first year of my baby’s life I decided that I wanted to be that someone for other mothers.  A birth doula told me about a training by DONA to become a postpartum doula.  I signed up for the training and thus began my journey into starting Momma Love Postpartum Services.

I am often asked What exactly does a postpartum doula do? It honestly looks different for each momma that I work with. My services are always custom tailored to what that particular family needs.  Through evidence-based information I help a mother and her partner learn all about their baby and how to trust their instincts and develop their own parenting style.  I support the mother in healing and resting from the difficult job of labor.  I assist with infant feeding and postpartum nutrition for momma.  I perform household tasks like light cleaning, meal prep and laundry to keep the home running while mother and baby bond.  It is my heart’s desire to change the way our society looks at this time known as the 4th trimester.  It should not be viewed as a race to see how quickly you can return to your pre-baby jeans but a period of self-reflection, care and learning to nurture yourself and this new beautiful life you've created.
